, Art Basel in Basel
Following two presentations at Art Basel Hong Kong as a VR Partner, this June VIVE Arts debuts at Art Basel in Basel with two VR works from renowned artists Albert Oehlen and Wu Tsang. VIVE Arts will be showcasing these two works in a dedicated lounge located in Hall 1 of Messe Basel.
Albert Oehlen is one of the most important and innovative artists who has been deconstructing the medium of painting from the 1980s to the present. Oehlen’s VR work, entitled Basement Drawing, captures artist’s avatar creating an ink drawing in his Pasadena basement studio. In this piece, the artist demystifies himself by revealing his avatar at work. He closes the gap between himself and the viewer, as well as reality and fiction. Basement Drawing is curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director, Serpentine, and developed by MacInnes Studios.
Following her acclaimed commission Of Whales for the Venice Biennale, multimedia artist and performer Wu Tsang presents A mighty mass emerges, a 15 minute VR work displayed on VIVE Flow VR glasses that is born from the same subject matter as Of Whales: Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. The viewer is able to experience the underwater world from a whale’s perspective. Tsang harnesses the power of XR technologies to create a novel world in which her storytelling power is optimized to its most mesmerizing potential.
