The Horizon of Khufu - Immersive Expedition

, HKRI Taikoo Hui, Shanghai

The VIVE Arts partnered project "The Horizon of Khufu - Immersive Expedition” will be exhibited at Shanghai HKRI TaikooHui on May 12, 2023. This project is an immersive virtual reality expedition based on the recreation of the interior and surroundings of the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt. It took three years for Excurio, a brand created by French studio Emissive and the Giza Project team of Harvard University to work together to realize this project. The first Asia tour in Shanghai was brought by “The Metaverse Project” will be exhibited from 12 May to 27 August 2023.

"The Horizon of Khufu" is an immersive 45-minute virtual reality experience. In addition to getting a close look at the internal structure and historical context of the pyramid, viewers can also explore areas that have never been open to the public, and even travel back to 4,500 years ago to uncover the mystery of ancient Egyptian civilization. During the tour, the audience can not only feel the excitement of overlooking the panoramic view of the Giza Plateau when climbing to the top of the Great Pyramid, but also go back to the fourth dynasty to sail on a solar boat on the Nile River and enjoy the infinite beauty. Peter Der Manuelian, professor of Egyptology at Harvard University and Director of the Giza project, served as an academic consultant for the project. He and his team supervised the making of this experience, ensuring its scientific accuracy through architectural and historical data applied in the reconstitution of the site and re-enactment of ancient practices.

VIVE Arts is excited to facilitate the project production process and the Asia touring as the technical and content partner. Based on the unique immersive expedition technology developed by Excurio, Horizon of Khufu aims to provide a new form of cultural tourism, which can accommodate a large number of visitors to experience at the same time. The project demonstrates the creative potentials brought by the latest technology in the ways of preserving the ancient world culture heritage.
