The immersive VR experience A Statue for Liberty explores the remarkable story behind New York’s most iconic monument, premiering this September, with the support of VIVE Arts, at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris before traveling to the Museum of Jewish Heritage. A Statue for Liberty, Bartholdi’s dream, from Paris to New York is a GEDEON Experiences production, in co-production with BackLight, the Musée d’Orsay, and VIVE Arts, with the participation of the Musée Bartholdi in Colmar. Fitted with VR headsets, the 35-minute collective walk-through follows sculptor Auguste Bartholdi from his earliest sketches and his 1865 meeting with thinker Édouard Laboulaye, through his collaboration with engineer Gustave Eiffel at the Gaget, Gauthier & Cie foundry, to the statue's arrival and 1886 inauguration in New York Harbor. The experience includes a virtual reconstruction of the now-vanished Gaget, Gauthier & Cie workshop, recreated through extensive historical research. Inspired by late 19th-century paintings, A Statue for Liberty blends artistic vision with historical accuracy, reaffirming the Statue of Liberty as a symbol of freedom and Franco-American friendship.
The journey for visitors to the NYC experience concludes within the Museum of Jewish Heritage's harbor-facing spaces, where visitors emerge to sweeping views of the Statue of Liberty itself, seamlessly linking the virtual narrative to its powerful real-world setting.
